OBUMEX | Avandi Studio, Ariane van Dievoet
AVANDI creates durable products that seamlessly blend technology and craft in a sculptural way. The studio stands for honest and ethical design and generates well crafted objects that add value to everyday life. Designer Ariane van Dievoet likes to playfully combine materials such as hardwood, stone, concrete, metal, leather or cork. She enjoys experimenting with new forms and techniques, constantly learning from her collaborations and discussions with local manufacturers.
Materials are turned, spun, cut and molded, by hand or using cnc technology, always with the same attention to detail. Trained as an interior architect, Ariane is interested in the relationship between each object and its surrounding, using simple lines and shapes to create timeless minimal pieces. The result is a selection of home goods & jewelry designed in house and produced locally.
September 2019 marks a new start for AVANDI, which was originally created in Brooklyn, NY in 2014. Ariane’s first Belgian collection focuses on reclaimed materials from the construction industry. Her collaboration with Obumex for Uptown Design will allow her to repurpose some of their raw materials to create a series of table top items, including bowls and platters.
Ariane van Dievoet is the designer behind AVANDI. After studying in Cambridge, London, and Providence (USA), she founded her studio in Brooklyn, NY in 2014. During the SaloneSatellite of the same year, she received the 3rd prize of the Salone Satellite Award for Steptool , a minimalist kitchen ladder. Exhibited in Brussels, Colognes, London, Miami, New York, Paris and Toronto, her creations have been noticed by Monocle, Elle Decor Italia, Sight Unseen and Domus, among others. Recently back in Brussels, Ariane is now exploring new techniques and materials, in order to revitalize architectural elements in her new collection of objects.
